Visit from Tim Sewell, ISAF’s Head of Marketing & Events
Between the 15th and 16th 2011, Tim Sewell, ISAF's Head of Marketing & Events, visited Dun Laoghaire to see the venue and meet the organisers of the ISAF Youth Worlds 2012.
Tim Sewell, ISAF Head of Marketing & Events, got the opportunity to visit Dun Laoghaire for a couple of days earlier this year to discuss the commercial aspects of the plans for 2012 and to see the venue first-hand. Not many of the team had met Tim previously, so it was an ideal opportunity to see the clubs, meet the organisers and some of the local stakeholders including the chief executive of the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company – Gerry Dunne.
Arriving on a spring evening he toured the waterfront area on foot and then took a coastal drive to Killiney to view Dublin Bay from the top Dalkey Hill. Bill O’Hara, of the Advisory Group, joined the commercial team for dinner that evening in Royal St George Yacht Club. The following day included a full tour of the Royal Irish, National and Royal St George yacht clubs, the Royal Marine Hotel and the Carlisle Pier Area.
Tim wrote on his return to Southampton “You are blessed in having such a natural venue for large scale international events. The yacht clubs and surrounding harbour area provide all the space needed and a high specification infrastructure, while the natural flow between the yacht clubs, hotels and harbour area means the regatta can be kept compact and connected.
I am confident that the team and wider Dun Laoghaire community are going to host an efficient and effective professional event that will provide great sailing and spectator experiences, which will last long in the memories of everyone involved”.
