The Irish Road to Istanbul 2010
The Irish Road to Istanbul consists of a series of interviews, six in total, including with three young sailors from the Royal St George YC .These sailors have qualified to represent Ireland at the 2010 ISAF Youth World Championships in Istanbul.
There are interviews with Irelands 420 team of Jane Butler and Jenny Andreason and Ireland’s representative in the Laser Radial class Matty O Dowd, are all from the RSGYC and represent 3 of the 6 person Irish Team. Two other members of the team, Scot Flanigan, a Howth YC and Malahide SC member racing in the 420 Boys and Sophie Murphy from Quoile YC,racing the Girls Laser Radial, are also club members of the RSGYC.
There are also interviews with Parents, the Coaching Director and an International Race Officer who will be officiating at the event.
Director of the Youth Scholarship Scheme(YSS) at the RSGYC is Johnny Ross Murphy and he explains the background to the clubs success at this elite level.
Parents play a huge role and we get the views of Mary Lawlor, Anne Marie Andreason and Don O’Dowd on the the impact of a world class sailing campaign on the youthful participants.
Finally, we get to hear about race management from Jack Roy, International Race Officer, from the National Y C who has been appointed ISAF RaceRepresentative for one of the 3 racecourses in Istanbul.
All are from Dun Laoghaire and that is of particular interest also because this major ISAF regatta comes to Dun Laoghaire in two years time.
The 2012 ISAF Youth World Championships will be hosted by the Royal St George YC in association with the National Y.C. .
If you are following the event, the interviews, which took place in the days preceding the departure of the team, will give an insight into the world class commitments ,plans and preparations made over a number of years by all of the above.
