Preparations are in full swing

The Royal St George Yacht Club and the National Yacht Club are busily preparing for another superb Mitsubishi Motors Youth Nationals this May.

The format for this year’s event has been based on that of the ISAF Youth World Championships which will be hosted by Dublin Bay in 2012.

This May Bank Holiday weekend will see upwards of 300 boats from seven different classes race on three separate courses in Dublin Bay. The quality of sailing will be at the top end as this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Youth Championship will be the second leg of the selection trials (for International Events) for most of the competing classes, where places are hard fought for on the water.

The Optimist Class will have seventy boats competing for Worlds, European, and Under 12 squads and having held their very successful Mitsubishi 2009 National Championships at the Royal St George most competitors will be familiar with the waters on Dublin Bay.

The Laser Radial, Laser 4.7 and 420 Classes will be fighting it out for team places too with the prestigious ISAF slots also up for grabs.

The Junior Pathway classes, Toppers and RS Fevas will also compete along with the SL 16 catamaran which makes its debut on the bay in preparation for 2012.
