ISAF Youth Worlds Day 5 Report
Day 5 of the ISAF Youth Worlds in Zadar, Croatia once again saw remarkable performances from the Irish sailors.
420 duo Emma Geary from Royal Cork Yacht Club and Niamh Connolly from Baltimore Sailing Club were definitely back on form today having been hampered by yesterday’s lighter wind conditions. The girls relished in the medium breeze today placing 10th and 6th respectively in their two races. They now lie in 18th overall. Their ISA Coach Ross Killian was thrilled with their sailing. He remarked “I can’t fault it. It was stellar performance from the girls today”.
Philip Doran of Courtown Sailing Club caught up to 12th place during his first race of the day but lost out on the final downwind which saw him finishing in 22nd place. He fared better in his second race sitting in 5th for the duration until the final mark when he was awarded a yellow flag. The penalty saw him finish the race in 9th place leaving him 15th overall.
Royal St George Yacht Club and Quoile Yacht Club sailor Sophie Murphy struggled today in the stronger wind conditions. She finished with two 30th places from her two races, one of which has been discarded. Even with her results today she still lies in 10th overall due to her consistently superb sailing throughout the competition.
